(Character Mod) Elle Color Separation

Post  SoulFireBlaze on Mon Dec 05, 2016 1:25 am

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elle Color Separation Mod
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This mod separates Elle's hair colors from her electricity colors, as well as the white of her hair from the white everywhere else on the sprites. Players can now edit Elle's hair and electricity colors separately in the Color Editor with the three new color slots. The added color slots are for the hair, which can be edited without having to worry about the white in her hair ruining any chance of dark hair color. There may have also been some fixes for a couple of knife attack sprites that didn't have her fishnet leggings on, but that's probably the only change I have done aside from the color editing.

Instructions:
Method 1: If you are able to merge folders, just place these data and palettes folders in the SoRRv5 folder where you run the game.
Alternatively, you can follow Method 2.
You should make backup copies of your own data and palettes folders before doing this. Do not do anything right away if you don't yet understand what to do. Feel free to private message me or post in this topic any questions about this mod and how to use/install it.

Method 1:

Method 2 (Should work if Method 1 does not):

No changes were made to alter Elle's gameplay (control points, collision, damage, etc.) in any way. No sprites were added to or removed from the character. This release is solely a graphical mod. Updates are possible for the future.

UPDATES:
- Changed some out of place pixels on 004 and 007
- Fixed hair color mistake on 013 (and probably edited some other sprites slightly but I forgot which)
- Thanks to Sshadow5001 for editing out the skin color pixels used in the hair, organizing the colors for the Color Editor, and the new palettes included in the download

Anyway, congratulations on getting a character fix done.

After bringing it up so many times since my SoR3/SoR1 tweaks, I was wondering when you'd give it a try.

Nice~! I love graphical fixes on characters. Elle, fortunately, doesn't need any upgrade since she's pretty awesome the way she is now.

Glad to see people are enjoying it. After posting this mod, I remembered to fix two sprites with out of place pixels. If you feel like going for this small update to have the latest version of the mod, the new link is in the initial post.

Post  SoulFireBlaze on Mon Dec 19, 2016 3:48 am

To anyone who downloaded this mod, I forgot to include the palettes since my last update. Apologies to anyone who couldn't get the colors working right. Please look at the first post for the link.

I don't suppose you could tell me what you used to make these? I'd like to take a crack at this kind of thing too.

Materials (some links pulled from this topic):

Color Editor Unlocked in SoRRv5

GIMP
This freeware tool is similar to Photoshop that can be used to edit the sprite images.

Smart FPG Editor
FPG editor like the title says, but you can easily edit control points and replace images while keeping original control points.

SoRRv5 Noise Tools
These are for used for encrypting/decrypting images in the game that use encryption. Not all images for a character's fpg will need encryption (icon and health bar are examples of images that do not need encryption).

HxD
You can probably just use any hex editor, but this one is the one I used. The reason you need a hex editor is to edit the base palette files (pal files that have no number at the end, so for example: electra_char.pal) to add/change/subtract any colors that your new sprites use.
In GIMP, you can see a color's "HTML Format", which is also the 6-digit hex format you need for the hex editor. In HxD, you can arrange the data to be displayed 3 bytes per row, showing one color per line. The colors for a sprite are offsets 00-32, and if you see "00 00 00", this means a color slot in the V5 Color Editor is locked, as each of the 3 bytes in offsets 00-32 represent color slots. When you have the base palette modified to have all of the new sprites colors, the alternate pal files can just be edited in the Color Editor in V5.

Re: (Character Mod) Elle Color Separation

Post  Sshadow5001 on Sat Feb 04, 2017 4:38 am

Hey guys, dunno if it's worth making a new topic for this so I'll post it here.

So I noticed that Elle had some Skin pixels used inside the hair which made some different hair colors look odd so I decided to just edit all the sprites to get rid of those pixels and now you can use any hair color you like. I did this building off of SoulFireBlaze's Elle .fpg file which separated the hair and electricity color so it's a bit of an upgrade.

Also I decided to reorganise the palette colors too.

1st row are skin colors (first color is also the lightest part of the clothing and electricity too, usually left whitish)
2nd row are clothes colors
3rd row are hair colors with the last color being lipstick
4th row first 2 are Electricity colors and last 2 are whip colors

All are organised Lightest to Darkest to make things easier.

The download file contains the edited fpg's and a selection of new palettes I created. Again thanks for SoulFireBlaze for pointing me in the right direction aswell as the original edited file.

Your post should be fine here, since this is the topic for this mod. I should have known those skin pixels would mess with the hair, so it's good that you not only took care of that issue but also organized the colors for the Color Editor. I'll make a mirror of your link in the first post and credit you for this update.

EDIT: I noticed one of the jumping sprites shows one of the hair colors wrong. I'll just fix it before updating the mod.
