Golden Rage v2 - Updates for Platforming, Duel Mode, and more...!

Warning: Collision maps work the best they can for all the pits and platforms within the Maker's limitations, but may still cause problems if you try to force enemies back down a platform or over a pit that is no longer on screen. Failsafe measures have been taken, by moving the camera and even in one case adding a walkable line through what should be impassable to reach an area enemies may get 'stuck' in, but they don't stop the issues from happening if you make them happen.
Also just in case you fuck up getting off the bird in Golden Axe 1 without fighting the skeletons...

Push up against the top left of the platform until you stop, don't run or you'll probably miss it.
Jump and you'll land on the hidden platform. Walk left, then push up until you stop.
Jump and you're back on the bird.


So this turned out so awesome it completely side-tracked me from Adam's Story when I first made it.

Features & Upgrades
-Stage collision designed to incorporate Golden Axe's large steps and pits for you to jump up and over, so levels no longer need to be flat and boring.
-Every campaign stage from the Golden Axe trilogy for MegaDrive
-Duel Modes from Golden Axe 1 and 2 included, and VS Mode from Golden Axe 3 incorporated as a bonus stage after the Good Ending.
-Campfire Bonus Stages!
-Thieves now reward high scores, relative to difficulty (high difficulty high reward). Green Thieves give you the biggest money, so even if you get a candy you'll be one step closer to an extra life. When playing co-op try to kill them before the other player so you get all the points!
-Murphy is Magic... he is available everywhere aside from Campfire Stages
-Beat Golden Rage 1 and you can carry on to Golden Rage 2, OR get a head start in Golden Rage 3
-Beat any route with a Good End and continue without resetting your lives or score. This way you can use Bomberlink's new savegame feature to make an endless playthrough!
-Fully functional Golden Axe 3 routes
-6 Endings
-Duel Mode 7th Ending
-It takes more than 6 full playthroughs to find every single scene.
-Ignore the story and cross over between the first two and the third game, mixing up the stages, if you want... there are only a couple of opportunities for this, but they definitely can make things interesting and further increase replayability
-Faithful to the originals, Easy Mode cannot get a good ending Laughing
-Each game is tougher - Golden Rage 1 is short and simple, Golden Rage 2 is well balanced in time and difficulty, while Golden Rage 3 is an hour long and offers the most challenge.
-Golden Rage 3 rebalanced by replacing most instances of one particular enemy. This one enemy change makes a huge difference going from hellishly annoying to enjoyably difficult.

Recommended Characters
Golden Rage 1/2: Axel (Ax), Blaze (Tyris), or Zan (Gillius)
Golden Rage 3: Adam (Kain), Skate (Chronos), Rudra (Sarah), or Max (Kragger)

Shiva is also an option for Golden Rage 3, since he's playing Eve (the Griffon King), who was playable in Battle Mode

How to Get a Good Ending
In any Route: Don't play Easy Mode
In Golden Rage 3 specifically, just do any one of the following...
...free 3 'heroes' from their curse (this means taking 3 particular stages from the lower route)
...play on Very Hard or Mania (this more than proves your 'skill' to unlock the good ending like in the original)
...after beating Golden Rage 1, take the Golden Rage 3 head start... and free just 1 'hero'
...take the alternate path in Golden Rage 2 right after you leave Dragon's Throat Cave

Note that Golden Rage 3's True Final Boss is still the same cheap bastard.
Just remember to jump over his lightning spam and try to fight high in the level. There are a lot of things to think about for just a 1v1, so if you're up for a maddening challenge try taking on the Good Ending. ~.o

I just tell you, guys, the new features and the platforming is soooo much fun! The v5.1 changes brought a lot of life to the modding scene and this is one of the mods that got highly affected by them. You must give it a go!

Going to try this out tonight hopefully.
Edit: Played through this beautiful mod from 1 to 3 no intermingling routes and game over'd at hell strike (barbon with million lasers!) The mod is much more well crafted this time around. Balanced and challenging enemy placement, the platforming despite the glitches and staying stuck up top of the screen (both of which can't be helped) makes the mod all the more fun. Palettes look amazing while staying faithful to the games which can be difficult to do at times so kudos for that! Bonus points for the sound pack and making sure all music (select screen, game over etc) stays faithful to the games and the easy ending even though I haven't experienced them yet. Razz

10/10! will play again!

Hello again welcome back, just finished play this mod what can I say OUTSTANDING. The added extras like the duel mode and the platforming are great touches and the enemy placement and the enemies used to replace the one from Golden Axe was spot on too nice job. Everything is well ripped and sized and providing great detail. I have done a little video of me playing this, I will concede never been the best streets of rage player anyway here it is and thanks for this update.

There is definitely an issue with some stages starting/ending high in the screen; the price of refusing to flatten the levels again I guess, but it almost made me want to while testing because of the "Total Enemies" box obscuring my view. XD

If i remember i had that issue with Rescue Metro City, glitchy scrolling due to element overwriting What a Face

Did the folder replacement, it works properly. What bothers me is the yellow color and ledge placement which prevents me sometimes to throw mooks in pits since they cannot climb them even with jumping attacks

Nothing to add really, but lots of work on this update so I post just to thank you for the new features. On a sidenote, Golden Rage is the first mod that makes me like pitting/platforming in v5.0 beside limitations of sormaker and limitations of sor jump mechanics. This said, it's still a bit glitchy but nothing really disturbing, still in my top 5 tribute mod. Very polished, nice enemy placement, palettes, interesting route system which provide customisation in challenge, sound effect pack : all that good stuff.

PS: I hope one day you will play The Revenge of Death Adder (best GA ever !). ^^

Indeed, GA the revenge of death adder feature a lot of "weird/extraordinary" stuff like third person camera scrolling and I was'nt asking CajNatalie to add this fabulous game to the tribute, but just to play it when she will have spare time. Most of us here love btu and love (or at least enjoy) this game and there is a good reason for that (it's a masterpiece). It was more a "cultural enlightement" than "extra work request".

I don't have any arcade emus set up. RoDA is probably one of the first things I'd try if I did, but still not enough encouragement away from Remake at the moment. Razz

A very special mod, for me. Could easily be my single most beloved one of the entire bunch, a place that "Way of the Warrior" reserved, for my tastes, though. Golden Axe has always been my most beloved game ever. Besides the very first one. This tribute, compilation, was very savory and satisfactory, in every sense! Extremely enjoyable! EXACTLY what i had in mind for the perfect interpretation of a SorRemake mod! Also, everyone attacking you at the end of the adventures in that surprise attack, was priceless!

Thanks a lot to the creator of the mod. This was a very significant and special experience for me! Keep up the good work! Much appreciated!

I played a second time to this mod, it's just huge! Three games in one, will all the alternative roads for the 3rd, breakable objects... I'ma not found of hommage mod, but I had big pleasure with this one. Maybe because SoR & GoldenAxe are very close in they working system, so the portage is efficient, or maybe just because I played a lot to the 3 Golden Axe. Definitively in my top!

How to get the Duel ending? I win the duel in 1, the duel in 2, i can't find a duel in 3 and i don't get cutscene or reward for beating the challenge of duels...

Also, is there any route map somewhere for reference, or hints on how to get the different endings?
